Historically Liberal New York Embraces Tea Party Movement

When Republicans attempted to march through Manhattan during the Presidential election campaign, the roughly 800 marchers were spit on and cursed at by Obama supporters and maligned by the media. Over the past two years however, historically liberal New York has been hard hit by Democrat sex and financial scandals, Wall Street dismantling, and the administrations dedication to making the Big Apple an even more attractive target to terrorists. The result has been a groundswell of conservative interest and activism with Republicans, Independents, and conservative Democrats joining together to protest the Obama regime.

On April 15th, a crowd of between 2,000 and 3,000 people protested against big government, out of control spending, and self interest promoting politicians at the James Farley Post Office in midtown. Tea Party protestors were met with cheers and support, their numbers growing so quickly that police cordoned off several blocks of 8th Avenue to accommodate them.

But it isn’t simply a case of citizens getting frustrated with the liberal agenda. Despite Obama’s attempt to make fun of the Tea Party movement and querying why Americans aren’t “thankful” for his anti-American policies, many politicians see the value in conservative activism.

The most popular Mayor in New York City history, three termer Mike Bloomberg yesterday applauded the Tea Party movement for encouraging political dialogue and public participation.

But Manhattan wasn’t alone in seeing an increase in Tea Party activities. All across New York State and in fact across historically liberal New England, people are evaluating the threat that the Obama regime poses to America and turning out by the tens of thousands to demand that American return to its fundamental, Constitution based roots.

Republicans Cry Foul As Patterson Delays Special Election

Despite assurances that he would immediately call a special election to fill the NY-29 seat vacated by disgraced Democrat Eric Massa, Gov Patterson continues to delay in setting the day.

Speculation is rife that the Democrats are struggling to find a candidate with any chance against popular Corning Mayor Tom Reed. Without a viable candidate, the Democrats can count on losing the seat.

Tax Advice With Charlie Rangel

In a rather bizarre case of “do as I say, not as I do,” disgraced Congressman Charles Rangel recently surprised his Harlem constituents with an unapologetic, expensive, color, glossy mailer touting his tax advice. Pledging that the information provided in his annual tax guide would “help put money back into your pockets,” Rangel, who is currently being investigated for tax evasion (among other ethical and financial violations), seems oblivious to the hypocrisy.

Not that many of his constituents would be in a financial position to “forget” about tens of thousands of dollars in revenue from Caribbean rental property, as Rangel claims he did, but one has to wonder what if he also forgot to pay his public relations advisors as well. After “voluntarily” relinquishing his position in the face of mounting, bi-partisan pressure to oust him as House Ways and Means Chairman due to his own tax evasion as well as a wide range of other ethics violations, Rangel’s actions certainly smack of arrogance or at least a complete disconnect from voters.

Sheltered through much of his most recent scandals by Pelosi, Rangel side stepped removal from his committee post by taking a temporary leave of absence. However, ethics investigations are still ongoing. While Republicans have been the most vocal group demanding Rangel’s removal, dozens of democrats have also called for his head. With many Democrats looking to appear more connected to their constituents in an effort to avoid the chop come election time, Rangel has found his Democrat shield eroding. That being the case, a man who has served 20 terms in Congress should have the political acumen to avoid drawing attention to his short comings with hypocritical, glossy mailing.
